FDA Moves to Ban Kratom Internationally via the W.H.O. & U.N.

The new WHO Kratom ban strategy by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA published a notice in the Federal Register on 07/23/2021 going behind the backs of the American people and asking the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) & U.N. to ban kratom internationally.

The FDA lost a fair fight to ban Kratom against the well educated citizens and law makers of the United States, but are unwilling to accept the people’s voice. Instead they are running to unelected foreign groups to help them dictate which plants you can legally have on behalf of big pharma who wants to remove your ability to use natural alternatives to their over priced and toxic drugs.

AKA VIDEO UPDATE REGARDING FDA W.H.O. & U.N. INTERNATIONAL KRATOM BAN

Let your voice be heard once again and provide the American Kratom Association with your statement on why Kratom should remain unscheduled and unbanned internationally.

The American Kratom Association is collecting comments from kratom consumers to submit in response to the FDA.

Responses to the notice will help inform the federal government’s stance on kratom scheduling in advance of an October meeting of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Expert Committee on Drug Dependence, where international officials will discuss whether Kratom will be globally scheduled.

SO WE MUST COLLECT AS MANY KRATOM CONSUMER COMMENTS AS POSSIBLE BY AUGUST 9TH 2021! These “formal comments” will be used as proof that kratom shouldn’t be banned.

Update Dec, 2021

The World Health Organization has decided not to recommend an international ban on kratom after conducting a scientific review. Kratom is a plant-derived substance that has been hailed as a natural painkiller and an alternative to prescription opioids. Concerns were raised that the WHO’s Executive Committee on Drug Dependency (ECDD) would impose international control over kratom.  A critical review by the committee could have led to scheduling, following another year-long inquiry. However, the ECDD voted 11-1 to continue monitoring data on the health impacts of kratom over the next two to three years.

Advocates for kratom are happy with the decision and are hoping it will lead to regulatory action within the US. The American Kratom Association senior fellow on public policy, Mac Haddow, said that the poorly regulated market empowers bad-actor kratom vendors to adulterate kratom products with dangerous substances like fentanyl, heroin and morphine. Kratom isn’t currently under the federal Controlled Substances Act or any international treaties with US. In addition, the FDA has not been able to place restrictions on Kratom.

The ECDD’s decision was based on a scientific review of the risk of dependence, “abuse” potential and therapeutic applications of kratom. The panel found “insufficient evidence” that kratom warrants a more in-depth critical review at this point. The committee considered information regarding the traditional use and investigation into possible medical applications of kratom and concluded that there is insufficient evidence to recommend a critical review of kratom.

The WHO Secretariat will continue to keep kratom under surveillance, as it has been since 2020. Members of the ECDD found that people report using kratom to self-medicate a variety of disorders and conditions, including pain, opioid withdrawal, opioid use disorder, anxiety, and depression. Kratom is being used as a part of traditional medicine in some countries. With the decision, the possibility of a kratom ban has been averted, and kratom advocates are pleased with the outcome.
